Book Review: Into Thin Air

Into Thin Air (Pendragon Casefiles Book 1) - Val Griswold-Ford

A cold case from three years ago has been reawakened due to her friends receiving texts from her. Messages that are either a cruel joke or disturbing. The Major Crimes department, detectives Mac and Javy, are now looking into the case. But when Terri Renolds contacts her mother, her mother contacts Lance Robinett and his team. Lance brings in a specialist, a psychic named Sapphire Pendragon, to help communicate with Terri.

A ghost story with one special young woman who can venture into their world, and help solve their mysteries. I really enjoyed the ventures with these characters and learning the truths and rules of the Ghostlands, as we are introduced to the idea and concept of it. And to know there are so many more rules to learn. We get to venture through learning this with Sapph. I like the way the Ghostlands' seen through Sapph's eyes. There is danger in the Ghostlands for Sapph, even though she doesn't know what all the dangers are yet. We see a few of them with her.

This story is shorter in the number of pages, but not short in story. Everything that is needed is here to feel complete, and even that there are more stories to come in the ventures of Sapph with the ghost hunters and Major Crimes department.

This is the beginning of a series and introduces us to all the major characters in chapter one. I like how we meet them all. Each character is shown in their own element, defining each as a specialist in their own field. I looked forward to seeing all the characters interact and learn more about each of them. We have Sapphire (Sapph), Scottie, Bear, Lance, Amari, Mac and Lance. Each comes to us as a team in their own essence (Bear is Sapph's dog).

We also meet the young girl, Terri. I got a strong feel for the young girl of who the case is about. In the end, we do learn what her story is. Oh the poor girl.

I was held to the story as I wanted to know what had happened to Terri and if the detectives will get their "bad guy". I also am intrigued by the Ghostlands! I want to visit there more and help more ghosts to learn what we can. So, I guess I fall in the same place as Lance (though not as careless to people's feelings) and his Uncle we've not yet met.

The book ends with a new case offered to the crew we've grown to enjoy. I'll be looking forward to that book when it comes out!

(I did read a short story in the anthology: Tales of a Tesla Rangerthat leads us into help for Sapph in the Ghostlands. That short story is actually what lead me to getting this book.)
